Noisy water pipes: How to fix water hammer in the pipes?
Are your pipes noisy? Do you know that each noise rises from the pipes refers to a specific problem? Plumbers can identify the pipe issues by just hearing these sounds!
Are you constantly annoyed by the harsh noise of the water slammed in your pipes when your turn the taps on and off? This phenomenon is called “Water Hammer”. A hydraulic shock is known as the primary cause of water hammer. When you shut off the water quickly, water flow comes to an abrupt halt in the pipes! This creates a powerful shock wave and a loud hammering noise!
Plumbers offer two solutions for this problem. First one is when you have old or unappropriated water chambers. In this case, you have to drain your whole pipe system from water so air can refill the chambers. Plumber establishes a vertical pipe called the air chamber, usually in walls near the taps, in order to prevent water slamming against pipe’s walls. When shutting off taps, air compresses and absorbs the water shock wave while letting water expand vertically in the pipe. Eventually, water hammer become simply controlled.
Second solution is to ask your plumber N9 to install a “Water Hammer Arrestor”! These mechanical water hammer arrestors are filled with either gas or air which makes them impermeable and waterproof!
Of course, plumbers suggest other solutions such as slow down valves or implementing larger pipes in construction from the start.
Unfortunately, every plumber confesses that water hammer has the potentials to damage joints, connections through the pipe line. Water hammer imposes a high pressure on pipe system. And therefore, it is only wise to hire a plumber and overcome any future consequences of this problem.
