Many ways exist that allow us to clean the water in our central heating system. The use of a magnetic cleaner is quite unconventional as it will clean the water with the use of a magnetic field in the pipework without touching the water. An N9 Plumber recommends the magnetic field cleaners. The chances are that your heating system has been fitted in your home for many years, so it is likely that it will contain a sludgy mess in its plumbing, this will predominantly be due to the corrosive reaction between water and metal that forms rust. There are hard water areas in the UK that are really prone to corrosion as the minerals in this water will leave a coat on the inner walls of its pipes. There is a reasonably obvious point about a magnetic cleaner and that is a magnet will attract metallic particles. This means that pretty much all the rot that is killing off your central heating can be removed by using a magnet. The cleaner is a magnetic unit that sits in the pipework and allows the water to flow through it. There are a few designs on the market. N9 Plumbers can fit magnetic cleaning kits.Totally isolate the central heating system and drain it completely. Cut the pipework to take the unit, this will have an inlet and outlet so will fit quite easily. Normally the best place to fit is on the return pipe below your boiler. You can then fit the cleaner kit along with its own isolating valves. A good idea is to fit two chrome isolators either side of the unit, this means you wont need to isolate the whole system if you need to work on the unit. Install by following the manufacturers instructions completely, they are quite basic to understand. Once you have fitted the unit you need to re-fill your system and test run. Lots of these units are around so do your homework and fit the one that is right for you. When the unit is installed you will just need to take out and clean the magnet now and again, this will probably be once around the three-month period to begin with, then, annually will be fine. “
